The Association of Ukrainians in Great Britain (AUGB) is the largest representative body for Ukrainians and those of Ukrainian descent in the UK. We exist to develop, promote and support the interests of the Ukrainian community in the UK. .
The Association was founded in 1946 by Ukrainians who came to Great Britain at the end of the Second World War
AUGB organise various campaigns, programmes or exhibitions to promote and commemorate aspects of Ukrainian history and culture. For example, to raise awareness, they have held events annually across the country to commemorate the 1932-33 Holodomor in which millions of Ukrainians, including a third of Ukraine’s children, were forcibly starved to death.
The catalogue of similar events relating to poignant Ukrainian anniversaries, prominent national historical figures or current events are too long to list in this brief introduction, but they are significant and take place on national and local scales.
