After much fundraising, donations and lots of effort from the first generation Ukrainians settled in Reading, £5,800 was raised and on 6th June 1969, 21 Sidmouth Street, Reading was purchased. It opened in September of that year and has been providing a home from home to local Ukrainians (and now to other local groups and communities and the wider Reading residents) ever since.
The centre was opened by the Lord Mayor of Reading.
